Virgin Voyages is Richard Branson's adults-only cruise line that launched in 2021 and has spent the years since systematically dismantling every convention the cruise industry holds dear. No buffet. No formal nights. No main dining room with assigned seating. No kids. No gratuity envelopes. No nickel-and-diming for restaurants.

What they've replaced it with is a fleet of four nearly identical ships running a model where all dining is included across 20+ venues, WiFi and gratuities are baked into the fare, and the onboard atmosphere skews more boutique hotel than floating resort. The entertainment is original rather than borrowed from Broadway, the fitness programme is included, and the whole thing is wrapped in a design language that feels genuinely different from anything else at sea.

The trade-off is real: the pool deck is small, the ships carry around 2,770 passengers with limited outdoor space, and the drink package (bar tab) is an add-on that can push costs up significantly. The cabin design is clever but compact. And the vibe - festival-adjacent, party-ready, late-night-forward - is not for everyone. That's by design.

Is Virgin Voyages for you?

You'll love it if

 • You want adults-only without the luxury price tag
 • Dining variety matters more to you than formal service
 • You prefer a festival atmosphere to a traditional cruise
 • You're a solo traveller who's comfortable being social
 • You hate tipping culture and want it built in
 • You value design and find most cruise ships generic

Look elsewhere if

 • You're travelling with kids (hard no - 18+ only)
 • You want a big pool deck and lots of outdoor space
 • You expect traditional cruise service and formality
 • You want a fully all-inclusive drink package in the fare
 • You're a light sleeper - the vibe runs late
 • You prefer quiet, enrichment-focused cruising

The ones marked sailed are cabins I've slept in. The rest are covered from the line's published specs and my time aboard the sisters.

Sailing Virgin Voyages solo

Virgin doesn't have dedicated solo cabins like Norwegian's Studios, but the adults-only environment and reduced single supplement on Sea Terrace cabins (up to 70% off the second fare) make it one of the better mainstream options for solo cruisers. The communal tables at The Galley, the Scarlet Night party, and the group fitness classes create natural social touchpoints without the forced mixer feel.
