I've been writing about travel since 2006. I pay for my own flights, book my own hotels, and sit in the seats I review. If something's good, I'll tell you. If it's not worth the fare, I'll tell you that too.

Planet Patrick covers what guidebooks skip - the practical, end-to-end logistics of how to actually get there: which cabin to pick, which lounge is worth it, how to get from the airport to the city, and where to stay when you arrive. The site is independent, ad-free, and reader-supported through affiliate links that never change my opinion.

How I review

Every flight, lounge, hotel, train, ferry and cruise on this site is something I've actually been on. No press trips in complimentary first class. No copy-paste from press releases. The seat I review is the seat I sat in, the cabin I show you is the cabin I slept in, the bus I took is the bus I'd take again.

I'm Irish, I write in Irish/UK English, and I lean toward what I call smart luxury - not the most expensive option, but the one that's actually worth it. Sometimes that's an upgrade, often it's not. I'll tell you which.

Editorial standards

Every commercial link on the site is disclosed. I work with a small set of affiliate partners (Stay22 for hotels, Viator and GetYourGuide for tours, DiscoverCars for rentals). Affiliate income covers travel costs and keeps the site running, but it does not influence what I review or how I rate anything. If a hotel is overpriced or a flight is poor value, that's what I write - affiliate or not.
